Latest news taken from www.berwickbandits.co/"Following yesterday’s major crash involving Berwick Bandit’s number one Ricky Ashworth at Scunthorpe, Berwick Speedway Club have issued this update at 9.00am: Ricky had been moved from Scunthorpe to a specialist neurological ward in Hull, but as yet has still to regain consciousness and remains in a stabalised condition. He has been admitted to an intensive care unit where his condition remains serious and doctors will monitor his recovery. The next official comment from Berwick Speedway Club will come during tonight’s meeting at Shielfield Park." I am sure others will join me in wishing a speedy and full recovery for Ricky.

Today's news, again taken from www.berwickbandits.co/"Ricky Ashworth Saturday evening 3-8-2013 Update.... on Sunday, 04 August 2013 01:17. The latest news from Ricky Ashworth's Hull Neurological Intensive care is that following a detailed scan the good news is that there are no broken bones in his neck which had been a concern earlier on. For the time being the medical staff are maintaining his unconscious state in order to keep him as relaxed as possible so they can observe and monitor his serious condition and give his system the best of chances to kick-start his road to recovery as his fight for life continues. More information will be issued as soon as there is solid news to tell." Also there is a YouTube interview giving infomation on his condition, link is www.youtube.com/watch?sns=fb&v=a5KXErLZqrk&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Da5KXErLZqrk%26sns%3Dfb&nomobile=1

Latest news from www.berwickbandits.co/Ricky Ashworth News - 17-8-2013 on 18 August 2013. Before Berwick got their match with Somerset underway their team manager Ian Rae received a text message from Ricky Ashworth’s Step Mum, Pam who asked for its contents to be read to the fans assembled on the night – the night of his 31st birthday. The club’s meeting presenter Dick Barrie relayed to fans that whilst Ricky’s condition was still the same, and he was still sleeping under the expert care of staff at the Intensive Care Unit at Hull’s Infirmary, Pam’s text had indeed put a few smiles on faces in the pits. Dick relayed the text message as saying: “Just so you can tell the fans tonight, Ricky has been yawning in front of me today (I’m probs boring him) and he’s reacting to the pain tests! Arms and legs have responded! He looks good. I think he can smell his birthday cake xx Pam” The news was greeted with spontaneous applause from the crowd who proceeded to contribute to a bucket collection on behalf of Ricky and his family with £1100 being raised. More updates will be forthcoming in due course.

RICKY UPDATE
Today Bandits Team Manager Ian Rae & his family went to visit Ricky in Hull Royal Infirmary where they were warmly greeted by his dad Dave, step mum Pam & sister Jade.
Ricky is now out of the High Dependancy Unit and now in a very small ward . He is no longer on a life support system and is breathing unaided . Although Ricky remains in an un induced coma , he is responding to voices . Today when Ian took Ricky's hand and spoke to him Ricky responded by opening his eyes and squeezing Ian's hand.
Doctors are continually monitoring his situation and it is hoped that Ricky will be transferred to a neurological ward in a hospital in his home town of Salford in the next few days.
Dave and Pam Ashworth have again asked Ian to pass on their heartfelt thanks to the speedway world for their good wishes and overwhelming response to the sales of Ricky Ashworth wristbands.

Update from Dave Ashworth via Facebook
Lovely update for all you wonderful speedway fans as there are a lot of people asking me for an update, Ricky is now officially out of his coma!, Hes not back to the ricky you all know ‘yet’ Nurses say most people wake up and are aggressive, as you know ricky is the most chilled out person you will ever meet, and he just woke up and slightly spoke to us out of the blue, when I say speak… ricky mumbles a little but you can understand what hes saying!, unfortunately his memory is all over the place as are his emotions, he has post traumatic amnesia due to the trauma of the crash and cannot remember what has happened a few minutes ago. Some days he thinks hes 17 and other days he remembers the day before his crash but refering to ‘the other day’ surprisingly he remembers being in the van an hour before the crash with me and matty wethers. we have told him about all the support and hes so shocked and thankful, he is yet to regain his full left side strength, he cannot walk nor eat/swallow and is not 100%, Thankyou to everyone for all of the support and funds, we’re amazed! we cant wait till ricky can thank you himself and come home!, Hes been moved to another hospital to receive intense rehab and physio. He thought he was only asleep 2 days! Bit longer than that son, nothing better than hearing his voice that I have heard every day for the past 31 years, my hero.

Update from Ricky's dad
Just a little update on rickys progress... Ricky hasn't been able to swallow since his accident, good news... Hes now gained strength in his throat, enough for him to enjoy a few drinks throughout the day, as well as a yogurt! each teaspoon he has is 'wow, that's tastes so nice dad' I must say I never thought id get so much pleasure and happiness watching my son eat a yogurt, im so proud to be his dad. im totally amazed at his strength and determination. its been a great week, ive been making him hot chocolate before he goes to sleep. his sleep patterns also getting better. long way to go but hes assured me his determind and cant wait to come home.
