Heat Results
Heat 01: Roynon, Hopwood, Hughes, White-Williams. 3-3
Line Up: Roynon, White-Williams, Hughes, Hopwood
Comments: Islanders win the toss and take gates 1 & 3.
Roynon by not far short of half a lap! He was giving it full gas while the other 3 were a little tentative on a few soft patches. IOW duo both passed White-Williams to share the heat. Royno was only a few tenths off the NL track record. Huge winning margin, which should please the 'haters' lol

Heat 02: Greenwood, Ritchings, Stoneman, Cottham. 5-1, 8-4
Line Up: Ritchings, Greenwood, Stoneman, Cottham
Comments: All struggling at one time or another. There are clearly soft patches where the heavy rain must have formed puddles. Greenwood led all the way. Stoneman passed Ritchings with a good outside move. He made a mistake and allowed Darryl back through though.

Heat 03: Perry, Bekker, Warwick. Baseby (ret). 5-1, 13-5
Line Up: Perry, Bekker, Warwick, Baseby
Comments: Perry away and gone to win by a long way. Bekker missed the start but rode a lovely exit turns 1 and 2 to find a line between the visitors and was then very comfortable in second. Baseby's bike went bend 2. Well spread out.

Heat 04: Greenwood, Stoneman, Cottham. Morris (FX), Starke (mins). 3-3, 16-8
Line Up: Morris, Greenwood,Starke Stoneman, Cottham
Comments: Starke excluded on 2 minutes. He was at the tapes early but a last second problem saw him push onto the centre green. He wasn't eady to race so the ref elbows him. Unfortunate. Stoneman replaces.
Re-Run: Ash lifted coming off bend 4 lap 2. Gets it down but can't aoid the home straight fence. Luckily all 3 following riders read it well and avoided him. Ash took a few minutes to get up but is ok. In his words via Porky (centre green announcer) "I've hurt something..." Porky says "well I ain't kissing it better" lol. Ash excluded.
Re-Run x2: In typical speedway style Greenwood, who was last in the first staging, pops out at the start to win from tapes to flag. Islanders' Danny gives Dan a run for a couple of laps but fades away later in the race.

Heat 05: Hughes, Perry, Bekker, Hopwood. 3-3, 19-11
Line Up: Perry, Bekker, Hughes, Hopwood
Comments: Perry so close to being thrown off the bike exiting turn 2 lap 1. He was out the seat with his leg in the air hanging on for dear life! Somehow he got everything where it should have been but couldn't take up the challenge. Boris comfortable in 3rd. Smooth ride by Hughes.

Heat 06: Roynon, Starke, Stoneman, White-Williams. 3-3, 22-14
Line Up: Roynon, White-Williams, Starke, Stoneman
Comments: Royno with ease but not by such a large margin. Good battle for second between the visitors for a lap or two. White-Williams nowhere near a point sadly (for 21st!). Well spread out. Soft/sticky track seems to be limiting the racing options for the lads, but what can you do when it's rained on for days on end?!
Sponsored by
Heat 07: Morris, Warwick, Ritchings, Baseby. 4-2, 26-16
Line Up: Morris, Ritchings, Warwick, Baseby
Comments: Ash from the gate. Decent race for second as Ritchings stalks Warwick but surely edges up on him. Just a bike length in it on the line.
Sponsored by Merlin
Heat 08: White-Williams, COTTHAM, Hopwood. Greenwood (fell). 3-5, 29-21
Line Up: White-Williams, Greenwood, Hopwood, COTTHAM
Comments: Gary Cottham takes a tactical ride.
White-Williams all the way. It was Hopwood giving chase and appeared to forget about the tactical ride. He shut off very late, does a bit of a flintstones move with his heels to allow Cottham through. 21st is close to the line and he didn't think Cottham took second but importantly the referee does.

Heat 09: Perry, Starke, Stoneman. Bekker (FX). 3-3, 32-24
Line Up: Perry, Bekker, Starke, Stoneman
Comments: Stopped. Bekker fell and is excluded. He got up and tried to clear the track but the ref beat him to it with the red lights. 21st's not too sure what happened. Heathens were on a 5-1 and looking good. Boris suddenly straightened up bends 1 and 2 and fell on the low side. Hefty bump into the air fence, but he seeems fine.
Re-Run: Wow race of the night! Starke made the start and edged out a bit of a lead. Perry set sail to chase him down. Spent 3 laps going in high and turning back, but last lap he changed his tactics and rode around the outside. Got level down the back straight of lap 4, strapped on a pair and went out in the deep stuff on the last turn. On the charge to the line Perry stole the win away. Great race at last.

Heat 10: Roynon, White-Williams, Warwick. Baseby (FX). 5-1, 37-25
Line Up: Roynon, White-Williams, Warwick, Baseby
Comments: Stopped. IOW pair clash bend 1 lap 1. Warwick up quickly. Baseby took a couple of minutes but got up and walked away. 21st thought the ref might take the easy option but excuded Baseby. He says it's the right call, but then he would Both sides are throwing away a few points here and there.
Re-Run: Royno by the proverbial. James rides a good first turn and back straight to make sure Warwick can't make a line on him. Just about holds him off. Not looking completely comfortable but strangely Warwick didn't really look like passing either. #contradiction lol.

Heat 11: Morris, Ritchings, HUGHES, Hopwood. 5-1, 42-26
Line Up: Morris, Ritchings, HUGHES, Hopwood
Comments: Kyle Hughes takes the Islanders second tactical ride of the night.
Morris from the gate. Ritchings rose a cracking first turn to round the visitors. He then rode a beautiful smooth and controlled race to hold off Hughes. Kyle clearly with the faster bike but he was making a few very slight errors as Darryl stayed smooth and never put a foot wrong. Great ride.

Heat 12: Perry, Warwick, Stonemn. Greenwood (fell). 3-3, 45-29
Line Up: Perry, Greenwood, Warwick, Stoneman
Comments: Warwick made the best start but left a bike sized hole going into turn 3 lap 1 so Perry filled it. Warwick tried to come back at him for a lap but Perry got his back wheel in the dirt and cleared off to win by a mile. Greenwood then closed in on Warwick. Though he made a pig's ear of turns 3/4 lap 3 but held third then made an even bigger mess of the same turn last lap to hand the visitors a shared heat. Greenwood is up and ok, thankfully.

Heat 13: Morris, Roynon, Hughes, Starke. 5-1, 50-30
Line Up: Roynon, Morris, Hughes, Starke
Comments: Lightening start by Morris to lead all the way. Royno could have passed him inside bend 4 lap 1 but shut of to allow Ash to get into the turn ahead. A bit of team riding by the captain only lasted a lap. He rode low on the sticky stuff and had a moment so he then made a clear choice to move wider and follow Ash rather than ride by his side. Easy 5-1

Heat 14: Bekker, Ritchings, Baseby, Cottham. 5-1, 55-31
Line Up: Bekker, Ritchings, Baseby, Cottham
Comments: Delight for the travelling Islanders fans as the IOW pair pop out of the start and hit turn 1 on a 5-1. As they round the turn and hit turn 2, Boris goes from 3rd to 1st between the visitors. At the exact same time Darryl rides a lovely turn 1 round the line to go from last to first down the back straight. Boris comes round him and the Heathens team ride to a max. To his credit, Baseby kept chasing and made up a lot of ground on the last two laps having lost a lot on the first two laps.
Sponsored by Splod [/b]
Heat 15: Morris, Perry, Hughes, Warwick. 5-1, 60-32
Line-up: Perry, Morris, Warwick, Hughes
Comments: Morris rounds Warwick first turn and just gets into turn 3 ahead. Danny pushed him though. Perry made a terrible start but showed he's learnt a thing or two about this speedway business with a cracking turns 3 and 4 lap 1. He turned hard back under the IOW duo and passed both on the insideof the home straight going into turn 1 lap 2. Hughes levelled off to chase and kept Perry honest without being in a position to pass.

Teams to be confirmed.
Semi-final first leg.
21st tells me that Ritchings has bought an engine off Morris, and according to Patch, Rosco will be helping him as much as his other commitments allow, so expect Darryl to find his best form soon.
While there's been some banter on facebook between Stoneman and the Heathens fans. Apparently he's looking forward to going back and racing against Dudley, followed by a pint in the bar. He said he expects to get booed lol. One of the Heathens fan pages is running a poll on when/where Danny will lose his steel shoe. The choices are: on the way from the hair dresser, on the parade lap, in the tanning salon, on the way to the bar and in his 1st ride lol (to explain - Danny's steel shoe came off twice last season when in a scoring position for Dudley).
Tom Perry was named man of the match.
Byron Bekker has unfortunately bent another bike tonight so there's an appeal being made, so if anyone can help out he's getting a little desperate for some financial backing. It's been a shocking start for falls/crashes and busted bike bits.
Bradley Andrews (grandson of former Heathens rider Bob Andrews) is practising after the meeting, riding a few laps in the juniors, and it appears another Kiwi with number 21 on his kevlars (we're not quite sure who he is) is out there too. Bradley is only 13 and is riding a 250cc. Apparently he was offered the chance to do some laps after a meeting on a Monday or Tuesday. He said I want to ride in front of the Heathens fans. 21st says sign him up! lol
