While I support this Academy League to help bring on young new talent, I feel this really needs looking at more closely along with the Conference League.
After watching this, it is hard to see where the priorities lie within the sport and the adminstration in organising such events.
A large number of people stayed behind to watch this and were completley dazed after two heats. Lewis Bridger was down as number one for the Buffalo team and Joe Reynolds at 2.
Bridger wasnt there so Reynolds took over as number one and r/r was used at number 2 for Reynolds ! Confusing, I havent started yet.
Heat 1 ; Shane Waldron is excluded for bringing down Johnson (I think ?) and the race was re-run.
Brendan Johnson, in as r/r for Reynolds falls and Ben Hannon lays the bike down, but still colides with the fallen rider. This is on the first bend with Joe Reynolds out in front.
RESULT; Race awarded after half a lap with Hannon getting second. 3-2
Heat 2 ; George Piper has machine failure at the tapes and pushes his bike across the centre green and onto the second turn.
They decide to run the race without him, but no exclusion lights come on and he waits on turn two for his mechanic before being called off the track.
As the enter lap 2, Tim Webster falls and Brendan Johnson collides into him as he lays the bike down 20 yards prior.
RESULT; Race awarded after roughly 320 metres with Greenwood getting win over Webster. 2-3 5-5
Heat 3 ; Shane Waldron wins over Reynolds with Piper third and Hannon at the back. 3-3 8-8
Heat 4 ; Greenwood wins as Johnson gets second and Franklin third as Charles goes to the back on last lap. 2-4 10-12
Heat 5 ; r/r for Reynolds is . . . . . Joe Reynolds !
Greenwood falls and remounts while Piper gets a point. Reynolds, a regular after match trialist at Monmore wins ahead of Webster. All four finish 30 yards ahead of next place. 4-2 14-14
Heat 6 ; Waldron beat Reynolds while Piper gets third as Webster falls. 3-3 17-17
Heat 7 ; Johnson wins well ahead of Greenwood who is well ahead of Franklin who is well ahead of Charles who falls on lap 3 and in frustration throws his bike down, leaving it on the track until told to retrieve it and later warned by the ref. 3-3 20-20
Heat 8 ; Waldron leads ahead of Reynolds with Piper thid who falls on lap 2 and Webster lays his bike down, but still colides with Piper, hitting him flush in the face.
Both get up and walk back to pits and race to be re-run with Piper excluded, despite first two heats being awarded ?
Walron leads until Reynolds moves inside him on lap 2. Next bend Waldron falls and gets to his feet. Webster had already fallen and remounted.
Webster lays bike down to avoid Waldron who is in the centre of the track, stationary. Leader Reynolds enter bend three as Webster gets to feet on turn four and as he walks off, Reynolds goes past him.
Waldron has now got going again and finishes second, some 250 metres behind. 3-2 23-22
While I like this, it makes you wonder if the BSPA or SCB would not be more wise to send these lads to a training school where they learn more about throttle control and laying a bike down.
