Chris Holder has taken out the Central Coast Cup at the Central Coast Speedway, NSW, Australia in fine style last night. Chris though didn't have it all his way in his heats with two hard fought come from behind victories in his heats before romping away in the final.
Chris's opening heat in particular produced one of the best races of the night early on in the meeting when 16 yr old Hunter Valley prodigy Richard Sweetman who took the gate & the 1st turn hole shot ahead of Chris. Richard then doggedly holding off Chris right until the chequered flag before Chris in a barn storming run coming out of the apex of the final turn managed enough momentum and speed to take the heat win right on the line over Sweetman.
In the final Chris showed a clean pair of heals over his rivals from the gate and won the final in impressive style and for those pundits with a keen eye it was quite obvious what 12 months of professional racing overseas has done for the 19 year old dual Australian u 21 champion.
2nd went to Jay Herne who rode with alot of speed and style as well to come up with an excellent result tonight for the 22 year old Sydney based rider. Jay has shown some good form through out this year at Nepean and if he continues in the same form as tonight he'll certainly be one of the consistent riders to keen an eye out for at the Central Coast Speedway venue through out the 8 meeting calendar season.
3rd went to "veteran" rider Ty Platt who showed he still has plenty of pace and local track knowledge to still match it this summer with with the young hard chargers on the NSW Speedway solo scene and it will be good to see the familiar racing kevlars of Ty going around the venue this season.
4th went to a James Holder in a tenacious and gusty performance tonight from the 20 yr old Appin based rider. A few of his heats in particular produced some of the best racing of the night on the well prepared Central Coast Speedway track and whilst his 4th placing was a good result, it didn't reflect the 1st place for effort James showed through out the meeting last night.
Other Riders Of Note:
Richard Sweetman: 16 yr old Hunter Valley rider who has the raw ability, speed and style to progress in the sport as senior rider of some potential in the years ahead.
It was quite evident even in his 500cc demonstration rides at meetings earlier this year that Richard was yet another junior product from "The Hunter Valley Nursery Of Speed "who was going to turn heads once he graduated to the senior ranks.
With a few more years under his belt racing and more exposure to different tracks and the quality opposition around Australia, the future prospects for Richard in the sport certainly look very good at this stage of his career.
Tom Armstrong: A strong back ground in both dirt track and speedway from the junior ranks and now as a senior. Tom has come back in fine style from fairly serious injuries sustained a while back to show strong performances both dirt track racing and now back in speedway as well.
He is certainly another young NSW moover and shaker to watch on the Australian speedway and dirt track racing scene over the next couple of years and hopefully the Central Coast Speedway fans will get to see more of the talent of Tom Armstrong this summer.
Summary: The greatest asset of any speedway venue is of course its track and how it was prepared. Going by the racing we seen last night and the feedback from the fans, the general consensus was it was the best they had seen the track in the last few years which contributed to the high level of competitive racing produced last night.
Overall the presentation and the organization of the meeting under the new promotion was excellent and great way to start off their tenure at the Central Coast Speedway. The meeting went along in a quick, cohesive and efficient manner and the new commentary team as well was both fresh and informative which the crowd seemed to appreciate.
The next meeting at the Central Coast Speedway will be on December 2nd with a teams solo match between NSW Country and Central Coast Sharks. Please refer to the venues official website at www.centralcoastspeedway.com for news and information pertaining to the meeting.
For those who would like to see all the action from the Central Coast Cup, Action Sportz Vision (formely 2 Xtreme Vision) will host a delayed video web cast of the meeting early this week on their website at www.asvwebtv.com
