Good idea but the best edr riders would arrive there anyway most just make up team numbers so if your at an elite meeting your watching NL or a pl heat twice but my biggest bug with it is when top men drop to number 6 hardly a protected heat if your up against PK or bjarne pedersen

Change the rules (that all teams should have at least 3 brits in their teams) as the young kids go through the leagues they would take the places of the old guys when they retire or drop down into the national league.

The question, as phrased seems ambiguous and open to misinterpretation (sorry).
The draft was a laudable idea which has still to be successfully formulated. If JUST the number 7 in each team were to be GENUINELY British, and currently riding at NL (or equivalent) that would be better, with the proviso that he would remain in that position for the season.
The only problem that then may arise would be if he achieved a sufficiently high average that would otherwise mean moving into the main body of the team. What must be avoided, at all costs, is the ludicrous situation of Internationals and former Grand Prix riders appearing at reserve.

No it shouldn't be got rid of but definitely needs changing like it's for 2 years only in year 1 you are the number 7 for entire year. Then in season 2 you are number 6 after the 2 years you are not allowed to be a draft rider

Needs more thinking through. Several riders have now been in this system for 2-3 years, and this season, thanks to the race format, several of them gained a sufficiently high average to move into the main body of the team, but gradually most of them have then ended up back in a reserve berth, so not sure it has achieved anything? I'd change the format so that there is only one reserve race per meeting, and their other three rides should pit them against their opposite number and the top 5. If they then can genuinely achieve an average which would move them into the top 5 at the expense of a more senior rider whose average has dipped, then so be it.

Retain it with modifications.
Only one EDR position in the team, riding at no. 7. Each team could (should, really!) have more EDRs in their squad however. Scrap the current race format in favour of the old one, still used by Premier and National Leagues. Make the no. 7 earn his average. Allow the heat leaders to be heat leaders again. If an EDR gets to the position of having a top five average he loses his EDR status with immediate effect. No rider to be eligible as an EDR for more than two consecutive seasons nor to be eligible for a subsequent term until one full season has passed since he was last an EDR.

Keep it but no reserve should end up as heat leader and if they do go into main team as second string only
