From where I sit an avid fan of 50+ years I see the sport I love dying before my very eyes.
There are many aged fans with a vast knowledge of the history and workings of our sport who are getting more and more distressed by the way speedway has not moved with the years, OK the GP's have vast TV coverage and are sponsored big, but speedway in the UK has been left to its own devices for far too long and I don't see many if any young Brits who will be challenging for the World title in the future.
Time for a massive change firstwe need a new head of sport who has a team of people who can ignite our sport, (a Barry Hearn type figure would help with his ability to turn around a failing sport) and put speedway back in the public eye.
At this time its not about the Elite League - this season has seen more changes and teams filled with Premier League guests or double up riders, not many teams have ridden as the per the clubs 1-7. The speedway has been mostly poor at best and certainly not entertaining with the vast differences in quality of riders.
I don't mind stepping back to ensure the future is bright, so the suggestion of the two leagues with all clubs in the mix is a good sign for me.
In the 60's many fans were against the changes, but we came a long way then, I agree to make to many changes (like the BSPA and rules) makes the sport less viable, but I can see positive coming from these changes.
Riders will need to be accounted for and I feel each of current 28 clubs will have to have at least 3 Brits in their line up, then we should get a database of riders from far and wide to fit our criteria and clubs can hand pick those riders that can fit in at least 80% of the meetings the club race in.
This way we should get more loyalty and hopefully breeding camaraderie and bringing in new fans and older ones back through the gate.
